LaPew, a five-year-old cat, was rescued by a big shelter in Florida after being found in a sickly and tangled state while wandering the streets. The rescuers had to remove all of her fur, whiskers included, due to a severe urinary tract infection and Brachycephalic airway syndrome. As a result, LaPew looked like a pug without her fur and whiskers.
Before long, LaPew was transferred to a smaller shelter and eventually ended up in a foster home where she met Jessica Lorman. During a visit to the foster family in Florida, Lorman became enamored with the affectionate and ailing feline, knowing that LaPew was destined to become a part of her family.
Lorman was captivated by her beautiful eyes and couldn’t resist when a friend suggested adopting her. Their experience in caring for cats with long-term medical issues made them a perfect fit for her. Lorman was charmed by her sweet nature and agreed to take her in. Once they received official approval from the adoption agency, Lorman wasted no time and bought a ticket for her to travel with them to New Hampshire.
LaPew may have a grumpy, pug-like face, but don’t let that fool you – she’s actually the sweetest cat you’ll ever meet. She quickly adjusted to life with her new family and was welcomed with open paws by her rescue cat siblings. It’s almost like they have a sixth sense for knowing when a new cat with a similar backstory arrives, and there has never been a long adjustment period for any of them. Lorman is proud to have adopted older or special needs cats who may have been overlooked by others, and she feels fortunate to have some of the greatest feline companions around.
Despite her troubled history, LaPew remains unflappable. She exudes a sense of ease and comfort around individuals, even those she’s unfamiliar with, and handles them with a greater level of composure than they do with her. People are often skeptical that she is, in fact, a feline, but this doesn’t faze her in the slightest.
LaPew, although a Persian cat, stands out from the rest due to her unique appearance. Unlike most Persians, LaPew had to undergo shaving which resulted in her lack of fluff and whiskers. Her peculiar appearance often leaves people curious about her breed and mistaken for a pug/cat hybrid. However, her owner assures everyone that she is a purebred Persian and that her fur and whiskers will grow back soon. Despite her unusual look, LaPew enjoys all the extra attention she receives.
Upon her arrival at the shelter, LaPew faced numerous challenges, including her physical appearance and health issues. Despite this, she was fortunate to find a family that overlooked these obstacles and embraced her as the ideal pug cat.
