If you’ve ever thought about having a lion as a pet, why not consider getting a Maine Coon cat instead? These beautiful domesticated felines have long, luscious fur that frames their face just like a big cat’s mane, but they are far less ferocious. Plus, they can grow up to four feet in length, making them a majestic addition to any household. Photographer Robert Sijka was enchanted by this regal breed and decided to capture their big cat vibes through striking portraits that highlight their budding beauty, from adorable kittens to full-grown felines.
It’s no surprise that Sijka has two passions in life: photography and Maine Coon cats. These two interests came together when he and his family moved to China 14 years ago and began to miss the company of animals that had always been a part of their lives. They fell in love with Maine Coons and eight years ago, Sijka’s wife Izabella started a breeding program. After their first litter of kittens was born, Sijka knew that these adorable creatures had to be shared with the world. He decided that his photos had to be as unique as Maine Coons themselves. With plenty of practice and patience, he developed his current photographic style and gained great pleasure from working with these amazing animals.
Photographing any animal is challenging, and cats present an additional obstacle as they won’t stay still! Sijka has honed his skills through years of practice and now has plenty of opportunities to capture endearing images since he and his wife now have a cattery called OtiCami that houses 20 Maine Coon cats and kittens. Sijka sells his work as prints, phone cases, blankets, and more in his online shop, the Felis Gallery.
With a family cattery of 20 cats, OtiCami perfects his abilities every day.
