Animal Rescue Of Anton was notified on March 17th regarding a pregnant dog in Coronado who had been abandoned and was about to go into labor. Although some kind individuals provided her with food, many others shooed her away, forcing her to hide in a nearby field next to the busy highway. As a result, both the mother and her puppies were in danger.
Fortuitously, a kind-hearted woman spotted her and called for help from Animal Rescue Of Anton. Upon their arrival, the rescue team cautiously approached her as she ran away. They didn’t want to startle her, so they followed her at a safe distance. She eventually grew tired and rested, giving them the opportunity to tempt her with food into a cage. After some persuasion, they were successful in getting her into the cage and she seemed calm and unfazed.
The doctor informed us that the mother is close to delivery. Fortunately, a recent ultrasound showed that all of her fetuses are healthy and there are at least 10 of them! However, they are a bit smaller than usual but should be fine. The mother’s hip is also slightly off due to a severe parasite infection. The first step is to remove any visible parasites and then administer a medicated wash to prevent future contamination. Despite the discomfort, the mother remained calm and didn’t show any aggression towards the medical team.
The moment had finally arrived and she felt a bit nervous that night. However, all her fears were washed away as she successfully gave birth to 11 puppies – each one of them healthy and oh so cute! We are over the moon with love for our new additions, born on March 22nd, consisting of 6 males and 5 females. Don’t forget to share with your loved ones!
