A duo of felines collaborated to look after a brood of six adorable kittens, who belonged to a mixed family, all with the generous assistance of compassionate humans.
Best Friends Felines, a cat rescue organization based in Brisbane, Australia, recently received an urgent call from a social worker asking for help with two cat mothers and their kittens. The rescue couldn’t refuse the plea for assistance and immediately took in the feline family. The group consisted of two mothers, Kokoro (a black tortie) and Emika (a snowshoe), who were caring for their six kittens, born about five days apart from each other. The cats were already taking turns in caring for their young when they arrived at the rescue.
As their little ones suckled contentedly, two mother cats cozied up together in a peaceful display of unity. Renae, a compassionate foster parent for a rescue organization, opened her heart and home to the family of eight felines. She ensured that the moms had a cozy nursery and an ample supply of food to munch on throughout the day.
Renae expressed her delight in having two mothers who are taking care of two litters simultaneously. She found it heart-warming that Emi is the mother of two smaller black and white kittens, while Koko is looking after four bigger kittens, consisting of three boys and one girl. It was amazing to observe how both cat mamas kept a close eye on each other’s kittens and ensured that they were well-fed and spotlessly clean.
As the six-week mark approached, the little bundles of fur had transformed into whirlwinds of energy. Koko and Emi continued to dote on them equally, always ready to attend to their every demand. “I can’t believe how active they are,” remarked their human companion. “They’re constantly scampering around and even stealing food from their moms.” Emi, in particular, devoted most of her time to the kittens, while Koko took frequent breaks to stretch and replenish herself. Whenever Koko needed a moment of solitude, she was grateful to have Emi there to watch over her brood.
Renae described Emi as a highly dedicated feline who never strays too far from her litter of kittens. She treats all of them equally without showing any favoritism. Although she rarely takes breaks from caring for her young, Emi has occasionally sat beside her foster mom to express gratitude for the food and comfort provided. Renae also noted that both Emi and her companion are gentle and affectionate cats, which is reflected in their offspring’s pleasant dispositions.
As soon as the kittens were old enough to eat solid food, they quickly figured out that Renae was the one who always brought their meals. Whenever she cracked the door open, they would come sprinting towards it, eager for their dinner. Renae had to be quick to get the food down because the kittens weren’t known for their patience. They would often start climbing all over her feet and meowing until she put the food down for them to eat.
The two pets became more engaged with their owners, seeking affection and naps on their shared bed. Upon meeting the resident cats, Emi formed a quick bond, while Koko displayed a feisty demeanor and acted like she was in charge.
Koko and Emi must be commended for their incredible effort in nurturing their six energetic kittens. It was undoubtedly a challenging task, but they handled it adeptly. As the little ones grew into lively and healthy cats, the mothers were thrilled to watch them explore the world around them.
These adorable kittens were given a new lease on life and never had to worry about having enough food or a roof over their heads. Luckily, they all found loving homes where they now reside. Koko and Emi are also enjoying their golden years after retiring from motherhood and living out the rest of their days with their forever humans.
