Introducing Frankie, a unique kitten known as Frankenkitten due to having four ears. He was found alongside his sister beneath a suburban house.
According to Georgi Anderson, the owner of Frankie, the cute little dog was born under a house in the suburbs and his mother was a wild dog. When he was found, he had only one live sister, but there may have been other siblings who didn’t survive. The homeowners who found Frankie and his sister took them in for several weeks to socialize them and make sure they were well-fed before taking them to a shelter for medical attention and finding them new homes.
When you meet Frankie, the first thing that catches your attention is his four ears. But there’s more to him than that – Frankie’s overbite gives his face a unique angular shape. Unfortunately, Frankie’s had some health issues – when he was rescued, one of his eyes had burst and had to be removed. His back legs also cause him trouble, with his knees not sitting properly, causing him to walk in an unusual splay-legged fashion as they slide in and out of position.
Georgi shared that her pet’s overbite caused his bottom canines to puncture the roof of his mouth, and he requires knee surgery which is quite expensive. Additionally, her furry friend underwent dental treatment to shorten his lower canines to a few millimeters above the gum line.
By removing his eye, his life was saved as the infection would have advanced to a fatal level if left untreated.
During my time working at the animal shelter, I had the pleasure of meeting Frankie. The staff asked me to foster him for a week as I was also a caregiver. Frankie required care after having his eye removed, and I was happy to help him recover in a comfortable environment.
What attracted me to him was not just his appearance, but his endearing personality and the way he explored his surroundings while seeking comfort from me. I visited him before his treatment and was struck by how gentle he was. There was something about him that I couldn’t quite put my finger on during the first few hours of his recovery at home, but I knew he was special.
The condition of his body affects how he goes about his daily routine. His small front ears slightly impact his directional hearing as they work similarly to earmuffs for his regular ears. With only one eye, he has adjusted without difficulty, although his capacity for night vision isn’t as good as my other felines. Despite his splayed legs, they don’t cause him any pain or hinder his ability to play and jump around.
