However, scheduling conflicts, including Gadot’s involvement in the 2024 release “Snow White,” prevented her from taking the part. Nevertheless, Robbie spoke highly of Gadot’s sincere and kind personality, which had also impressed the team during casting. It’s worth noting that prior to Robbie’s involvement, Amy Schumer had been slated to play Barbie in the film, but had to withdraw due to similar scheduling issues.
According to a report by Hollywood Reporter, Margot Robbie agreed to play the role of Barbie in 2019. Although she played the lead character, the actress revealed that she wasn’t fond of playing with Barbie dolls during her childhood. She stated that she never imagined becoming Barbie until she was offered this role. When asked by Vogue about Barbie’s overly sℯxualized image, Robbie responded by saying that Barbie is a plastic toy with no organs or genitalia, so people cannot impose their sℯxual desires on it. The Barbie movie is set to release on July 21 and features an impressive cast including Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell, Simu Liu, Emma Mackey, Issa Rae, Dua Lipa, and John Cena alongside Robbie.
